Avalanchee-Hard 2 The Core

The continues to be a hotbed of Gospel Reggae/Dancehall talent and this new release comes courtesy of the Lion of Judah sound system camp.

Being a firm fixture on a number of previous “Riddim Invasion” compilations, duo Avalanchee step out with their solo effort and there’s a run of banging Dancehall Riddims to get bussing your club moves. The beats master DJ Frost (Ronnie Cash) is responsible for the sounds and there are heavy influences from mainstream riddims like on “Ballin Skeem” (Military Riddim), “Money Maker” (Coolie Riddim) and “Living Properly” (Stepz Riddim or as many would know as Sean Paul’s “We Be Burnin”).

As deejays they do run on the hardcore tip and this is illustrated well on “Buggin”. “Anything” which features the distinct vocals of Yankee jumps out as the key commercial track to warrant good airplay – catchy chorus and bumping Ragga chants. The Reggae massive are catered for on the Dub-sampled “Nah Fraid” featuring Mr. Lynx and Fire and the expansions of genres moves into more Hip Hop flavourings which encounters a couple of low points. On tracks like “Look” or “Elevating” the artists seem a bit clumsy and don’t manage to get to grips when straying away from the more Caribbean-based rhythms; thankfully that occurrence is minimal.

Musically, Avanlanchee have struck an excellent balance. By following through their previous hype-club styles, on their own project this will more than satisfy any hardcore Dancehall/Reggae fan.
