G K Real - It's All About You 310 |
| REVIEW >>> "Last month, I got handed a copy of this album at a gig I was DJing at and admittedly it sat in the office for a few days before I popped it into the CD player and suddenly the listening senses came alive. Where did this project come from? After a bit of online research I soon find that GK.Real is made up of six London artists of Nigerian/British heritage and they come up with this well-produced mix of Pop R&B/Hip Hop. The opening song which should become a single straight off, is the Latino-tinged Amazing Love with its sweet female chorus and well-constructed hooks. If there was such a term as commercial Gospel, these songs fit that bill. My Life Is In Your Hands is your Top 40-style pop ballad as is From My Heart. The more danceable cuts rate highly too Get To Know You and the Raymond & Co No Limits beats flow on Finished Work. The cut Revelation has this catchy concoction of hardcore 50-Cent rap bars, R&B verses and vecoder voice layering reminiscent of PAJAM productions. As the album weaves its towards the end, they chuck in more Church based songs like the contemporary Rock praise number Blessed Jesus and the calypso-Gospel flavoured When the Road is Rough. The live recording quality is good and a particular stand-out is the Gospel/funk cut Put My Hands Up. Under the production guidance of RockHill Entertainment, this is an extremely consistent and captivating album. The only downfall is the lack of marketing and promotion, with a little bit of a push this album can and deserves wider recognition." By DJ El Niño © July 2004 |
