SoL-Sons of Light 317 |
| Fresh on the scene is this all-male trio Sons Of Light (SOL) and a very consistent debut it is. Made up of two brothers, Lanre and Arinze, plus Tom - the three guys take on the whole production, songwriting and singing aspect of the album. Its an Urban affair with a kind of 90s R&B/Soul feel reminiscent of 112 or Teddy Riley. Strangely though it doesnt sound dated as they manage to push out a great selection of commercially appealing tracks like Trippin or the anthem Ghetto Prayer featuring rapper Testament. The more Soulful offerings are soothing and mind-settling as heard on Hideaway and the retro-sounding With All My Heart. Wanting to experiment further a field SOL do a cover of the Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis penned Fake and then head straight for the Pop market with the boy band mover Your Love. Another great standout is No Me Without You which is a runaway R&B club smash that will no doubt win them credibility in the more upper Urban circles. The great thing about this album is its focused on its theme of constructing relevant lyrics, catchy numbers and professional packaging. They may have made a quiet entry to the UK Gospel scene, but as soon as word gets round expect to see SOL become a familiar fixture on the circuit. |
