It’s been a while since Mark Mohr and his merry band of sanctified roots riddims ambassadors troubled us with an album. But it’s finally here – and well worth the wait.

As the name suggests, musically this album does have a very “old school” feel, but not so much that it sounds ancient. There’s quite a lot of Trinidadian input – hardly surprising, given that Mark’s in-laws (the Blackman family) are kinda like Trini music royalty. Sure enough, bro-in-law Sheldon makes a guest appearance, as do Sherwin Gardner, Mr Lynx, Ace Winn and Koen Duncan.

Ragga fans who want a good jump around can go for “Rooftop”. In a more thoughtful mood? Then there’s the title track, or “My Defender”. If you’re a Ska fan, you can bounce to “The Prodigal” – real Big People Music! Either way, whatever your preference in reggae, “To the Foundation” has something to please. Nice.
